while the fiance is away...

we have a weekend house-guest! Sir Duke, a friends dog, is staying gracing us with his majestic presence...
He's a mature fella and not too sure why B & L feel the need to run around constantly.
All-in-all he is settling in well and we are happy to have him!

In other news, Kevin is away for the weekend on a guys camping trip east of Yosemite. Doing guy things - camping, fishing, shooting guns, bbqing and of course drinking beer.

In other other news, myself and four of the best preschool teachers in the history of preschools, met up for happy hour at Crush last night. It was incredible to see the girls I spent so many hours with caring for the kids we cared so much about. We were a close-knit group who really took ownership of and pride in  the Purple Room. We are all in different places in our lives now, but we will always share that unique bond of loving our college jobs and truly making a difference in the lives of 3-5 year olds.

Cheers to the Purple Room!

And here's to a weekend of brainstorming wedding crafts!

Love, Mal

blow out the candles and cut the doggy cake...

Bodie & Lily are 1 year old!
We had a little 1 year photoshoot. The pups decided on their favorite accessories, their bandanas.
BoBo is our sweet cuddler. He only wants to be where we are. He can still be shy, but is learning more and more everyday.
Lily is our little troublemaker. She gets comments and attention wherever she goes. She gets away with pretty much anything-Daddy's little girl.
They are as sweet as can be.
And it makes us think, wow, we must have the most precious pups on the planet. And then...this happens.
They drive us crazy, don't let me sleep in on Saturday mornings, and take up most of the space on the couch.
Pups, we would have it any other way.

**Note: we don't actually know the pups exact birthday, since they were abandoned at four weeks old. But we count it as two months prior to us welcoming them into our lives last July.

an all-dog post

Perhaps I take too many pictures of our dogs. Can't help it, sorry. We adore them. Drum roll please...

B & L love their lunch breaks in the backyard.

And their weekend trips to run free in Bidwell.

 I adore him, too.

 And meeting new friends.

 And getting muddy.

And that ladies and gentlemen, was our Sunday morning.

Easter Sunday

Kev and I dropped the pups off at Wacky Wags and headed to the Bay Area for Eater Sunday. We celebrated his sister, Katie's, 21st birthday with his family on Saturday night which was so relaxing and fun - good Sierra Nevada beer, good food, and just all-around happy time. We also stopped to see my best friend Jenn and give big hugs.

Sunday we got to see my niece and nephew, Gaby is almost 6 and Dominic is 4. I can't believe it.
I took as many pics as I could (all iPhone pics so excuse the quality).

notice the bubble juice spilling as he focuses on the bubble.

Cute, right? Anyways, we stopped in Modesto for a few hours to have an Easter dinner with Kev's Grandma and Grandpa, mom and sister. YUM. Then we made the trek back to Chico and slept in our cozy bed that I missed so much, even for just one night. I couldn't wait to pick up the dogs the next morning - and what do you know, they couldn't wait either.

Happy family, back together again. We are so excited for this weekend, we have a list of things we need want to do.

1. take a hike in Bidwell with the pups, it has been so long since we have been able to go
(weather, moving, sick, etc.)
2. go see the splash dog contest at the Chico/Northstate Sportsman's Expo (among other things)
3. Paint the fireplace wall (Glidden - Water Chestnut)
4. Start reading Catching Fire
5. do Kev's taxes...

That's a wrap!

Aren't Friday's just like nothing else. They are so great at leading into a Saturday that it almost makes Thursday full of the same awesomeness - merely by being the day before Friday. Just a thought.

We chilled Friday and ate a yummy dinner of I can't remember what. We made a game-plan for Saturday (which we do often). They go like this..we plan out the day verbally, as if we participate in some grand scheme of activities and must do so to keep a day together, then we repeat the chronological plan verbally to make sure we both understand. Then when it is time to actually enact the gameplan (Saturday early morning) Kev pretends like we didn't just plan out the entire day the night before - and makes me repeat it all again.

So we got up super duper early in preparation for intentional garage-saling. I had addresses written down, coffee in travel mugs, and my iPhone maps app ready. The goal: Dining room table and chairs. Maybe an entry-way table? Other things our new place could use. No junk.

The result: the exact kind of dining room set I was looking for within our price range (okay, maybe just a tiny bit over because it was perfect) and a few rugs in great shape for around the sliding glass doors (puppy mud prints). That's it I think..like I said - no junk!

Introducing our new table! Don't mind the mess on top..

It has six beautiful chairs and a leaf - so it will grow with us. Very excited about it and looking forward to recovering the cushions and re-staining the top at some point.

We then went to our old stomping grounds (Broadway) to clean the place and meet with our landlord. Turns out there is one good thing about living in a small place - less to clean. It went pretty fast (thanks to our gameplan) and we were done in a few hours. We parted ways with our landlord, deposit check in hand, and the last load of junk stuff in Kev's truck. We ran some errands and by the time we got to our new home we were too tired to even unload anything.

Sunday was rough. Really, how does losing one single hour wreck such havoc?!? Besides the pups waking up at 5:45 (really 4:45), I ended up falling asleep while knitting in the afternoon (yes, I am 23). We had a yummy breakfast, watched some NASCAR, unloaded the truck, made a Target run for some stuff for the house and just "Sunday stuff" like laundry and organizing and such.

Here's to being 98% done moving!! And our first storm last night in the new place! And the pups being able to RUN (see photo).

We miss you, families!

Welcome again!

It is one of my goals this year to blog much more often-like every week or even multiple times a week. This feels like a tall order, until I look at some of the other blogs I follow/read and these incredible people women/wives/mothers with careers are blogging almost every day. If they can do it, surely I can too.

So here goes-I plan to try and include much more than what we did/where we went (or where we didn't go and what we didn't do). Maybe some crafts? Some decorating? Less pictures of dogs? (yea right).

First off, the changes I keep ever so slyly hinting about...

1. Kevin was done with school/graduated in December (good job babe!) He had already had a few interviews that obviously didn't pan out, so we figured that I would continue to work at Hanover (for the best bosses ever) while he looked for something "up here" in Chico, or elsewhere. Well what do you know, he applied for a position with a local company, Butte Steel Inc., got an interview a little over a week later, and was offered a job on the spot! It was one of those -whoa-  moments and days.

Kev came into my office after his interview, looking all handsome and fancy in his suit, and the ladies I work with put it simply but oh-so-correctly, sometimes things don't work out (the other interviews) for a reason. Here we are, in a terrible economy, both working full-time right out of college. We couldn't ask for much more than that. Are we going to be rich? No. Are we stoked? YES!

Maybe it isn't every Chico State student's dream to stay and work play after graduating, but it was ours and were livin' it. So moving on..

2. We're moving! Two paychecks means a bigger place, thank goodness. Right after Kev started working, I started looking for a place with a yard and two bedrooms. A fenced, big yard. Oh, and a dishwasher would be nice, as would central heat/AC (we haven't had either in years). Closer to work would be great too. Well, there we are a few days later putting a deposit down on a two bedroom/two bathroom place LITERALLY 5 minutes from work.

Oh, did I mention that Kev works LITERALLY 1 minute from my office? I didn't, but it is perfect.

Back to the new place, it has a washer and dryer (that must work better than what we have now, which basically don't), a fireplace!, a huge fenced yard and separate fenced garden, too many closets to count (5 or 6), a carport (a compromise), central heat/AC, dishwasher, etc. It is not the most beautiful or stylish place - but that's what Pinterest is for! We are going to start moving things in next weekend - can't wait!

3. Bodie and Lily (aka B&L, Bo Bo and Wiwy) have a forever home -- Ours. We have seen these puppies go from 5 and 7 pound little 8-week-old nuggets, to very sick/near death with parvo-virus, to thriving parvo-survivors (not all dogs are so lucky), to happy/healthy/crazy almost 10-month old pups. We still have NO idea what they are (mommy probably got around) but we love them anyways. They drive us nuts, they rule the roost, and they insist on chewing their bones on the couch - but that's what owning a dog is all about. So here they are..

b & l at 8 weeks and almost 10 months
Sometimes we joke about how silly they look with those ears, how Lily must have been bred from a squirrel, and how Bodie has the worst doggy-farts known to man-kind. But mostly, they make us melt with their cuteness. Maybe one day they will be as well-behaved as they should be.

Remember, all you need is love...and a dog.

Love, K&M

Here we come!

Well, we are almost on our way home for the holidays. Our silly little tree a-top the dog crate is officially dwarfed by the presents ready to be given to family and friends!

In the next three days our itenerary should resemble something like this:

Chico - Angels Camp - Livermore - Pleasanton - Castro Valley - Pleasanton - Livermore - Modesto - Chico.

The pup's (Bodie and Lily) itinerary looks something like this:

Home - Wacky Wags Boarding and Daycare - Home!

We will miss you pups, but you will be well-taken care of. See everyone soon!

Saturday in the Park

Yesterday we took the pups on a little hike in Upper Park. They loved it! We didn't go far, but it was as beautiful as a December day could be.

After the hike, we let the pups frollic around. This whole area is off-leash but we get a little nervous, but they got to meet some doggy friends who were oh-so-well-behaved. Maybe these pups can learn a thing or two!

The water was pretty much freezing, but Lily went for it. Bodie, who loved swimming in the pool at Grandma's a few months ago wasn't so sure.

Anyhoo, if the weather holds, we'll be back soon. Good luck to Kevin on his LAST test this Tuesday and pray that he lands a great job soon!
